JV Broncos Dominate Ingram JV
By Nancy Glasscock
Sonora's Junior Varsity didn't need a full four quarters to secure their fourth
victory of the season. The defense stopped the Warriors on all but one
drive and the offense's rushing and passing game was clicking. The game was
called due to lightening within three miles of Bronco Stadium shortly after the
fourth quarter began for a 34-8 home team victory.
Ethan Morriss, the JV quarterback, scored the first Sonora touchdown at
1:43 in the first quarter after a 20 yard punt return by Caleb Gonzales. The
PAT kick was no good.
Defensive plays by Paul Faz, Ryan Garmon, Angel Aguayo, and Gonzales put the
brakes on the ensuing Warrior drive. With less than a minute to go in the
first half, Shane Patlan appeared to have scored on a pass from Morriss.
However, a penalty negated the score. Zac Rodriguez scored the second JV
touchdown on a pass from Morriss. Rodriguez followed it up with a successful
run up the middle for the two point conversion.
The Broncos got the ball back with two seconds left in the first half.
The Broncos came to line with three receivers on the right side of the
formation. Morriss tucked the ball in and ran around the left side for a
50 yard touchdown run making the score 20 to 0 at the half.
At the beginning of the second half, Sonora quickly got the ball back
again. Jesse Guerrero and Pedro Ramirez
moved the ball into Warrior territory. Manny Paredes capped this drive off with
the touchdown run. Refugio Sanchez's PAT kick was good to make the score 27-0.
The final JV score came late in the third quarter. With Morriss blocking, AJ
Ozuna took the ball around the left side in for the score. Sanchez's PAT kick
was good. The Warriors put eight points on the board shortly before the game
was stopped due to the weather. The final score was 34 to 8.
The Sonora JV Broncos have an open week and then start district play in
Sonora against Junction.
