The 8th grade Sonora Colts hosted Comfort's 8th graders last Thursday night
at home.
There was no score in the first quarter despite the fact that the Colts
moved the ball well down the field.
Early in the second quarter, Colt quarterback Word Hudson kept the ball, ran
wide left, bowled over one Comfort defender and broke another one's
attempted tackle to move the ball to the 14 yard line. For the score, Hudson
ran right and threw the ball back across the field into the endzone for
Cadesman Pope. Pope caught the touchdown pass with four and a half minutes
left in the second quarter. The try for two points was no good.
Comfort's quarterback went to the air again. The visitors moved the ball
down the field, but couldn't get into the endzone. The halftime score was 6
to 0 in favor of the Colts.
The was no score in the third quarter. The Colts did move the ball well on
the ground though with runs by Jorge Villaneuva, Manny Paredes, Zach Badeaux,
and Hudson.
The Colts got their final eight points of the 2007 season late in the fourth
quarter. Hudson kept the ball and with good blocking was able to run about
40 yards into the endzone for the insurance points. Hudson then handed the
ball off to the Colts' biggest weapon, Pope, who bulldozed his way in for
the two points.
Comfort could only answer with a touchdown on their next possession. The
final score was 14 to 6 in favor of Sonora. The 8th grade Colts completed
this season with a 5-4 record.
