Sonora traveled to Brady on Friday night for a battle between
two District 8-2A one and one teams. Brady's first play from scrimmage set the
tone for the entire game: we are fast - try to catch us. The Brady quarterback
threw a long pass to a receiver breaking away down the middle. The pass was too
long, and fell incomplete. Then the Bulldogs used twelve rushing plays to drive
the field for their first touchdown with 3:10 left in the first quarter. The
PAT kick was also good for a 7 to 0 score.
Brady scored three more touchdowns in the first half - two on long runs and one
on a pass completion right before the end of the first half. The score at the
end of the first half was 25 to 0 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Brady's fast, large defense limited the Bronco offense to only one first down in
the first half and 29 yards of total offense. The Brady rush also gave little
time for freshman Ethan Morriss to find any open receivers.
Despite being almost totally dominated in the first half, the Broncos never gave
up. The Bronco defense limited the high powered Bulldogs to only one touchdown
in the second half. On the Bronco last drive, the Broncos went to the shotgun.
From the shotgun, the Broncos were able to move the ball behind the running and
passing of Morriss.
Sonora rushed 31 times for a total of 93 yards and 28 yards passing in this
game. Riley Sanchez and Morriss were the leading rushers with 21 yards each.
On defense, the top four leading tacklers were Dustin Neff, Tyler Creek,
Sanchez, and Cash Jennings with 9, 8, 7, and 6 tackles respectively. Isaac
Quiroz, Aaron Gaytan, and Sanchez each had a sack. Creek had a pass broken up.
This week the Broncos travel to Blanco to face the Panthers. The Panthers are
undefeated in District 8-2A and have a 7 and 1 record overall. Kickoff is
scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
