Broncos Rebound Against Tigers

After one scrimmage and one game, the Broncos are showing signs of learning the new offense as they won by a score of 33 to 10.  In a game that featured 15 fumbles, six by the Broncos and nine by the Tigers, the Broncos rushed for 303 yards on 42 carries.  Victor Vaquera completed 6 of 13 passes for 41 yards.  The Bronco defense held the Tigers to only 105 rushing and 11 passing yards.  The Tigers managed only three offensive points.

The Broncos won the toss and deferred to the second half.  The Bronco defense stopped the Tigers and forced them to punt.  Kris Aguero fielded the punt and returned it over 30 yards to give the Broncos excellent field position.  The short drive featured a pass from Victor Vaquero to Riley Sanchez, nice runs by Dustin Neff, Ricardo Rodriguez, and Will Anderson.  Anderson got the touchdown on a run up the middle.  Aaron Gaytan added the PAT, and the Broncos had the early lead at 7 to 0.

The Tigers fumbled the ball back to the Broncos giving them a very short field.  Rodriguez got the touchdown on a counter play.  The PAT kick was wide left and the score stood at 13 – 0.

In the second quarter, a Tiger runner got past the linebackers and appeared on his way to a score.  Tyler Creek ran him down from behind and saved the touchdown.  Despite a short field, the Tigers failed to score as they fumbled the ball to the Broncos killing the drive.  The Broncos fumbled the ball back to the Tigers giving them another chance.  They squandered the gift as they fumbled it again.

Nick Pena got the Broncos out of the hole with a 40 yard run down the right sideline.  Fidel Acevedo stopped a Tiger drive by intercepting a Tiger pass.  The score at the half was 13 to 0 in favor of the Broncos.

The Tigers generated the first excitement in the second half.  Their best drive of the night ended in a field goal after Creek leaped high and deflected a pass away from the Tiger receiver saving a touchdown.  The Tigers got on the board with a field goal.  The score quickly narrowed to 13 to 10 as the Tigers were able to pick up and return a fumble for an easy touchdown.  Little did they know that their scoring was over for the night.

Rodriguez ripped through the Tigers for a 50 yard run to the three yard line.  A couple plays  later, Rodriguez scored the touchdown and Gaytan’s PAT was good making the score 20 to 10.  After a deep kickoff, the Broncos trapped the Tigers inside their own ten yard line.  Alberto Tovar recovered another Tiger fumble giving the Broncos a very short field.  Anderson got the ball to the  one yard line on the sweep.  On the next play, he smashed over for the touchdown.  Gaytan kicked it true and the Broncos moved to a comfortable lead of 27 to 10 late in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Vaquera rolled to his right looking for a receiver.  He found an opening and ran 63 yards for an apparent touchdown.  A tripping penalty against the Broncos cancelled the touchdown.  The last touchdown drive of the night started when Acevedo got his second interception.  Anderson got his third touchdown of the game on a trap play up the middle making the final score 33 to 10.

This week is homecoming.  The Broncos will be playing the Colorado City Wolves.  Last year, the Broncos shut out the Wolves 28 to 0.  The Wolves come to Sonora undefeated as they have defeated Wall and Grape Creek.  Come to Bronco stadium and cheer on our Sonora Broncos.
