JV Broncos Send Brackettville Packing By Nancy Glasscock In baseball terms, Ethan Morriss and his crew pitched a shutout. This game was the opposite of the Sonora JV’s opener against Harper though. The majority of Sonora’s scoring in their first game was in the first half. After only scoring one touchdown in the first half this week, this young JV team put an additional 33 points on the new scoreboard in the second half for a final score of 39-0. The Sonora JV, now 2-0, put their first six points on the board at 1:35 in the game’s second quarter. Completed long passes to Angel Aguayo and Caleb Gonzales, set up a Morriss bootleg around the right side and into the end zone. The PAT kick was wide right. During the first half, there were outstanding defensive plays by Ryan Garmon, Chacho Mesa, Paul Faz, Manny Paredes, and Josh Salazar. In the second half, Sonora’s JV offense started clicking. On the second half’s opening drive, Morriss’s pass to Gonzales helped set up the quarterback’s second touchdown as he lunged over the goal line from the one yard line. A busted play resulted in the next Sonora score. Shane Patlan reversed his field and ran into the left corner of the end zone. Paredes ran the ball in for the two point conversion. With time running out in the third quarter, Morriss took the snap and took off down the field 70 yards for the fourth Sonora score. The Broncos quickly got the ball back again and put another six points on the board. Preston Lopez returned a Tiger punt 65 plus yards for the fifth touchdown. With less than four minutes to play, Colyer Dermody recovered a Brackettville fumble. This time another Bronco speedy running back, Jesse Guererro, took the ball around the right side for the sixth and final touchdown of the game. Refugio Sanchez’s kick was good. The week, the Bronco JV team travels to Colorado City to play the Wolves’ JV team. Good luck JV Broncos on your trip into the Wolves’ Den. In last week’s article, I mistakenly credited Shane Patlan instead of Preston Lopez. I apologize for my error. |
